چکیده

This lecture discusses the problem of allocating ad slots given search queries, where the advertisers have constrained budgets, and the search queries arrive online. An online algorithm is tasked with allocating each term to an advertiser, with the aim of maximizing the overall revenue, subject to the budget constraints. The main result described is an online algorithm that, for a random permutation of the ads, achieves a profit of (1− )OPT with high probability, where OPT is the profit of the optimal offline algorithm. The value of is an input to the algorithm and depends on problem parameters.

Advanced Topics in Machine Learning and Algorithmic Game Theory Fall semester , 2011 / 12 Lecture 10 : Market Equilibrium

Today topic is market equilibrium. The basic elements of a market are buyers and product (and there are also potentially sellers). The goal is to nd prices that clear the market. Namely, under those prices every product is completely sold, and there is no remaining demand. In other words, we would like to achieve a state where demand equals supply. This is probably one of the most important con...

Advanced Topics in Machine Learning and Algorithmic Game Theory

We begin by examining balanced vs. unbalanced coins, where the coins stand for statistical assumptions. Assume we have two coins, a balanced coin r with distribution r0 = 1 2 and r1 = 1 2 , and an unbalanced coin p with distribution p1 = 1 2 + and p0 = 1 2 − . This scenario is equivalent to the inspection of a given assumption, trying to figure out whether it is random or better than random. We...

Advanced Topics in Machine Learning and Algorithmic Game Theory Fall semester , 2011 / 12 Lecture 8 : Information Cascading

Consider a game of drawing balls from a bucket. The game manager tosses a secret coin. If the outcome is heads, the manager places 3 red balls and 2 white balls, and vice versa if the outcome is tails. Each player in his turn draws a ball from the bucket, secretly and at random, and has to announce (to all other players) his guess of the outcome of the original toss. Now, suppose that the rst f...

1 Machine Learning and Microeconomics

The focus of my research is on theoretical problems at the interface between machine learning and microeconomics. This interface is broad, spanning domains such as crowdsourcing and prediction markets, to finance and algorithmic game theory. I am particularly interested in applying machine learning theory to economic domains, such as using coordinate descent to understand market behavior, and c...

Representation and Learning in Computational Game Theory

Game theory has emerged as the key tool for understanding and designing complex multiagent environments such as the Internet, systems of autonomous agents, and electronic communities or economies. To support these relatively recent uses of game theory — as well as for more ambitious modeling in some of the traditional application areas — there is a growing need for a computational theory that i...
